Virtua Fighter 2
Virtua Fighter 2 is a 1994 fighting game developed by Sega AM2, a sequel to the title that pioneered 3D fighting. Running on Sega's powerful Model 2 arcade hardware, it delivered smooth, high-resolution characters running at sixty frames per second and detailed textured backgrounds that were startling for the time.
The game emphasized realistic, martial-arts-grounded combat over flashy special moves, rewarding precise timing, spacing and knowledge of each fighter's style, and it added the new characters Lion and Shun Di to the returning cast. The increased speed, fluidity and depth made it a huge arcade success, particularly in Japan, cementing 3D fighting as a serious competitive form and drawing dedicated player communities.
Virtua Fighter 2 has been included in later Sega compilations and digital re-releases, giving modern players a chance to appreciate the technical, disciplined fighting system that influenced the entire genre.
