Players roam freely, join guilds like the Mages, Fighters, and Dark Brotherhood, tackle memorable, often surprisingly creative side quests, and close hellish Oblivion gates, while skills improve through use and a level-scaling world adjusts enemies and loot to the player's progress.
A major commercial and critical success that won game-of-the-year honors, it broadened the audience for open-world RPGs enormously and set expectations for immersion.
