The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Also known as Oblivion
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a 2006 role-playing game developed by Bethesda Game Studios, an open-world epic set in the lush central province of Cyrodiil as fiery demonic gates to a hellish realm begin opening across the land following the emperor's assassination.
It expanded the series with fully voiced dialogue, a striking generational leap in visuals and physics, and the much-touted Radiant AI that gave townsfolk daily schedules of eating, sleeping, and working. Players roam freely, join guilds like the Mages, Fighters, and Dark Brotherhood, tackle memorable, often surprisingly creative side quests, and close hellish Oblivion gates, while skills improve through use and a level-scaling world adjusts enemies and loot to the player's progress.
A major commercial and critical success that won game-of-the-year honors, it broadened the audience for open-world RPGs enormously and set expectations for immersion. It is available on modern platforms, supported by a large modding scene, and a full remaster has renewed interest, keeping it accessible today.
