Assassin's Creed
Assassin's Creed is a 2007 action-stealth game developed by Ubisoft Montreal, following Desmond Miles, a modern-day bartender who, via a machine called the Animus, relives the memories of his ancestor Altair, an assassin operating during the Third Crusade in the Holy Land. It introduced a distinctive blend of historical setting and sci-fi framing.
The game popularized fluid "parkour" traversal, letting players scale towers, leap across gaps and sprint over rooftops, combined with crowd-blending stealth, investigation and social manipulation before each assassination. Its dense, meticulously researched recreations of medieval cities like Jerusalem, Acre and Damascus were a striking technical showcase, and synchronizing viewpoints from high towers revealed the map.
Though repetitive in its mission structure, the original launched one of gaming's biggest franchises, refined enormously in its sequels across countless historical eras. It is available digitally and stands as the origin point of a series that reshaped open-world action-adventure.
