Burnout Paradise
Burnout Paradise is a 2008 racing game developed by Criterion Games, set in the sprawling open world of Paradise City, where events begin simply by pulling up to any of the many intersections. It reinvented the arcade racing series around freedom and exploration.
The game kept Burnout's trademark sense of blistering speed, boost-chaining and spectacular slow-motion crashes while removing menus in favor of seamless driving between races, stunt runs, road rages and takedowns across an interconnected city. Discovering shortcuts, jumps, smashable billboards and gates rewarded players who explored every street, and cars were repaired and swapped at drive-through garages and paint shops.
Burnout Paradise was praised for its ambitious open design and generous ongoing free updates that added features like motorcycles and a large playground island. A remastered version bundling much of that content has kept the game current on modern platforms, preserving its exhilarating, crash-happy spirit for new drivers.
