Guided by cryptic phone calls, you clear buildings full of enemies in lightning-quick, one-hit-kill bursts, swapping melee weapons and firearms while wearing animal masks that grant different perks like faster movement or lethal doors. Deaths are instant but so are restarts, encouraging aggressive, puzzle-like planning of each violent room, with scores rewarding combos and speed. Its pulsing synthwave soundtrack, lurid visuals, and disorienting, self-questioning narrative about violence made it a striking cult hit and a landmark of stylish indie action.
A darker, more expansive sequel, Wrong Number, followed, and the game remains available across PC, console, and handheld platforms, its style widely imitated in the years since.
