Streets of Rage
Streets of Rage is a 1991 beat 'em up developed by Sega for the Genesis, created as a home rival to the coin-op brawlers dominating arcades at the time. Three former police officers set out to reclaim a crime-ridden city from a criminal syndicate.
Solo or in two-player co-op, you punch, kick, jump-attack, and grapple your way through waves of street thugs across urban stages, aided by a screen-clearing special police-backup attack reserved for emergencies. Its tight combat, varied enemies and bosses, and a celebrated electronic dance soundtrack by Yuzo Koshiro made it a genuine console standout that outshone many arcade competitors. It launched a beloved trilogy that many fans still consider among the finest in the entire genre.
The series was revived decades later with the acclaimed Streets of Rage 4, and the originals remain available through numerous classic collections and re-releases on modern platforms.
