Guilty Gear
Guilty Gear is a 1998 fighting game developed by Arc System Works, a 2D fighter that arrived late in the PlayStation's life and immediately stood out for its heavy-metal attitude and striking hand-drawn characters. Its cast ranged from the bounty hunter Sol Badguy to the swordsman Ky Kiske and a host of eccentric fighters.
The game combined fast, aggressive combat with instant-kill moves, chain-style Gatling combos and a rock-driven soundtrack, establishing a bold aesthetic that would define the series. Though its roster was small compared to later entries, its energy, expressive style and technical depth laid the groundwork for one of the most respected franchises in competitive fighting, later famous for its lavish sprite and animation work.
Guilty Gear grew into a celebrated series known for its artistry and mechanical depth, and the origins established here can be appreciated through the many acclaimed sequels and modern entries available today.
